In modern power distribution networks, the high voltage load break switch (LBS) plays a key role in ensuring safety, reliability, and maintainability. The 24kV load break switch is designed to handle rated operating currents while safely interrupting load currents under normal conditions. Unlike circuit breakers, it is not intended for fault interruption but rather for isolating and switching functions in RMUs. In a typical RMU configuration, the LBS allows operators to sectionalize the network, isolate faults, and maintain sections without disturbing the entire system.

Key parameters include rated voltage (24kV), rated current (630A or 1250A), and short-time withstand current (16kA/25kA for 3s), aligning with IEC 62271-103 standards.

 

Choosing the right LBS for RMU applications depends on system configuration, network load, and insulation medium. In urban distribution grids, SF₆-insulated LBSs provide compactness and low maintenance. In environmentally focused projects, vacuum LBSs are increasingly preferred for their eco-friendly performance.
