GW4 Series Corrosion Resistant Design for Coastal and Heavy Pollution Areas

Outdoor disconnectors installed in coastal zones and heavy industrial areas face relentless exposure to salt spray, corrosive gases, and high humidity. These environmental stressors accelerate metal corrosion, degrade insulation, and ultimately compromise mechanical reliability. The GW4 Series Outdoor High Voltage Disconnector is specifically engineered with a comprehensive corrosion-resistant design that ensures decades of reliable service in these challenging environments .

The foundation of corrosion protection lies in the sealed rotating components. Each rotating base is hermetically sealed to prevent ingress of moisture, dust, and harmful gases . Bearings are lubricated with molybdenum disulfide lithium-based grease, which maintains its anti-corrosion properties and lubricity across a wide temperature range (-40°C to +40°C) . This specialized grease does not dry out or wash away, ensuring consistent operational torque over extended periods without maintenance .

Critical hardware components utilize stainless steel pins paired with oil-free self-lubricating bearings . This combination eliminates galvanic corrosion risks associated with dissimilar metals while providing smooth, friction-free rotation. All steel parts are hot-dip galvanized, creating a metallurgically bonded zinc coating that sacrifices itself to protect the underlying steel. For the highest corrosion resistance, the contact fingers are constructed from specially formulated high-conductivity alloys that resist pitting and crevice corrosion .

The insulator columns are designed for Pollution Class IV environments—the highest classification for heavy contamination. Creepage distances range from 1025-1250mm for 40.5kV up to 3150-3900mm for 126kV applications . Long creepage paths prevent tracking and flashover in conditions where salt deposits or industrial pollution create conductive layers on insulator surfaces. For the most severe coastal installations, silicone rubber insulators are available, offering superior hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties .
